About The Programme

Giving Wings to Fly is a fully supported aviation career programme designed to enable women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to become skilled, industry-ready commercial pilots. The programme provides comprehensive training, including a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with ATR Type Rating, preparing young women across India for careers as airline-ready pilots.
If you have the passion and aspiration to become a pilot, this programme will support you with the guidance, training, and financial support you need to become a pilot.
The programme is supported by IndiGoReach, the CSR arm of IndiGo, India’s preferred airline. It is implemented by BharatCares (Shri Mahakal Education and Charitable Trust, SMEC), and training is delivered by Chimes Aviation Academy (CAA), a DGCA-approved Flying Training Organisation (FTO).

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must be a female Indian citizen

The applicant must be between 18 and 35 years of age on the date of application

The applicant must have completed higher secondary class (10+2) with English, Physics, and Mathematics as subjects

Must have secured a minimum of 51% marks in each of the three subjects in Class (10+2)

Applicants must belong to an economically disadvantaged household with an annual gross income that meets the prevailing economically weaker sections (EWS) criteria and guidelines prescribed by the Government of India, as amended from time to time. (Guideline)

The applicant must hold a valid Indian passport. Candidates without a passport may still apply but must obtain one before Phase 3 of the selection process.

The applicant must fulfil the DGCA Computer number, Class 1 and Class 2 medical certificate requirements as per the selection process

The applicant must obtain a police verification certificate before commencing training

Candidates with visible tattoos will not be considered eligible for the programme

The applicant must be prepared to participate in every stage of the comprehensive evaluation and selection journey

Giving Wings to Fly

This is a CSR initiative by IndiGoReach, implemented by BharatCares (SMEC Trust), with training provided by Chimes Aviation Academy, a DGCA-approved Flying Training Organisation.

What is a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)?

CPL is a licence awarded by DGCA that allows an individual to work as a commercial pilot. It requires completion of DGCA examinations, flying hours, medical certifications, RTR(A) licence, and English proficiency requirements.

What is Type Rating?

Type Rating is a certification that authorizes a pilot to fly a specific commercial aircraft model such as Airbus A320 or Boeing 737.

What is ATR Type Rating?

ATR Type Rating qualifies a pilot to operate ATR 42 and ATR 72 aircraft. The training generally takes 2–3 months and makes candidates eligible to apply for First Officer positions.

What is the ScholarsBox Platform?

ScholarsBox is the official application portal used to submit applications, track status, and monitor progress throughout the programme selection process.

Chimes Aviation Academy

Selected candidates will undergo pilot training at Chimes Aviation Academy (CAA), a DGCA-approved Flying Training Organisation.

  • Female Indian citizen.
  • Age between 18 and 35 years as of 1 May 2026.
  • Passed Class 12 with English, Physics and Mathematics.
  • Minimum 51% marks in each of the above subjects.
  • Belong to an economically weaker household as per EWS guidelines.
  • Valid Indian passport (or obtain before Phase 3).
  • Meet DGCA medical and computer number requirements.
  • Obtain police verification certificate.
  • No visible tattoos.
Additional Information
  • Class 12 students may apply if results are available before the specified deadline.
